Artist's Comments

I love the Harry Potter books!! This is my first time drawing any of the characters though. I really had a lot of fun drawing this...especially the details! XD I used vellum paper and mechanical pencils (3H and 4B lead) for this. :D

First of all, let me tell you that I really enoy looking at this artwork of your. The realism is nicely done and we recognize immediatly who the artwork deals with. The only thing, though, is that I have the feeling it's a tad too dark. I understand the high contrast between your light and your shade but I still feel it's too dark on the left.
Other than that, I think it's a very wonderful piece; I just love how you managed to put Dumbledort (spelling? sorry, ain't a big fan of Harry Potter) in Harry Potter's glasses. It gives a nice effect, a sensation of magic like it should for this serie, and also a feeling of reflection, giving us the idea that these two characters are connected to each other no matter what (like somehow the Master and his rookie).

In overall, a very nice piece, a bit too dark, but a marvelous one nonetheless. I shall now see the rest of your gallery.

This is the most original Harry Potter portrait I've seen (and there are a lot of them!) I love how close up the face is, the composition itself is very cool for all the symmetry behind the asymmetry. There are three pizza slices of value, and the slice of highlights are a triangle pointing down but the darkness is simultaneously pulling the eyes back up and it makes the viewer keep looking the picture up and down across all the details from the texture on the lips to the fascinating reflections to the soul-filled eye. It's a great (photograph or scan?) of the portrait too because the darkest areas are not flat but shaded with smooth clean soft areas whose values create more shapes pushing life into the face and adding to the storm he's in. The highlights on the eyebrow too are another amazing touch of detail, and it's wonderfully accurate how all the shadows fall across the face and the highlight reflects on the lens of the glasses and the lashes create a shadow over the eye. There's a few sharp, scratchy lines on the work, but I think they just add to the action feeling of the storm. I do think (given your incredible skill) that the spectacles could have been a bit better, the lenses are amazing, I mean the metal itself, it's not bad at all, but it seems to possess just a bit less realism in comparison to the rest of the piece, I can only speculate why...I think its something to do with some of the highlights being too bright or the values not coming together to create the spectacles, but rather needing the contour lines. But at the same time this also makes it look more illustrated and makes the most realistic parts, like the iris, a lot more fun to see in comparison.
It's inspiring work!:headbang:

Good-o. The reflections in the glasses are such a nice addition to the whole thing.
